Our Story

Hey there! We're glad you're here! Thank you for your interest in our products.

We are adventurers, outdoor-enthusiasts, overlanders. Our family has been remote camping since our kids, who are now adults, were very young. We embraced overlanding several years ago when David was introduced to vehicle-based adventure travel and it reminded him of some favorite aspects of his military experience.

STōD Gear Company is a small company with big ideas… It all started with an unwieldy piece of wood found in a dry Arizona riverbed that we needed for the evening’s campfire. After securing it to the roof with bungees, we knew we needed a better solution. The vision for our flagship product, the WoodGaiter®, was born around the campfire that night and by morning David had mentally designed the first prototype! Nikki took to collecting materials and made it come to life on the sewing machine. It took a few renditions and lots of field testing to develop it into the product we proudly sell today.

We build products that we use. In our own adventures, we have found needs for products that didn't exist, which inspired us to create our own products to fill those needs. As a combat veteran with significant field experience, David knows first-hand the importance of well-made gear, and the risks that result from shoddy gear. With that foundation, we strive to create exceptionally well-engineered, functional, durable products because we use them ourselves, a lot. We want them to work well and to hold up to the abuse we give them. We hope that you enjoy using them as much as we do and that they last for a long time for you.

We’re crazy about quality and attention to detail. Our products are constructed by hand, right here in the USA with superior craftsmanship and the best materials we can find. We build products that last so you get value from your investment, and that has the added benefit of producing less trash too. We also focus on minimizing waste in production, designing our products to maximize material usage to the best of our ability.

We genuinely care about about quality, striving to do our very best, seeking to do right by others and being good stewards of resources and the environment. It's who we are; it's how we roll.
